A nice paved road with vista

Cottonwood Canyon & Sierra Vista Road Association

Our mission is to organize the community in maintaining the main roads servicing the Sierra Vista and Cottonwood Canyon areas

Together, We Maintain Our Community Roads

About Our Road Association

The Cottonwood Canyon & Sierra Vista Road Association is a volunteer-run group of neighbors coordinating the maintenance and improvement of our shared roads. We organize grading, drainage work, and repairs, and we manage community contributions so costs are shared fairly and transparently. Together, we keep our roads safe, reliable, and accessible year-round. Maricopa County does not maintain the roads in any way. It is up to us to maintain our roads.

Not only do our roads improve our property values but it also provides a safe and efficient passage for emergency vehicles and keeps our cars and homes clean and free of dust. The association maintains the Sierra Vista Road from the Cave Creek Town line to the east gate (1.4 miles) and Cottonwood Canyon Road from the Sierra Vista Road intersection north to the gate (.26 miles).

ROAD HISTORY

Sierra Vista Road was created to access the Gold Reef Mine and later the Sierra Vista Dude Ranch.  Sierra Vista Road and a portion of Cottonwood Canyon Road were paved years ago by the generous contribution of three individuals, one of which is Fred Rosenbaum who still lives here today.  Shortly after paving, the Cottonwood Canyon & Sierra Vista Road Association was started to organize the community in maintaining the roads.  Daily vehicle traffic and heavy equipment traffic for new home construction takes its toll on any road.  Regular repairs and occasional repaving are needed to maintain road quality and safety.

CURRENT ROAD STATUS

Road repairs to Sierra Vista and Cottonwood Canyon were completed in February 2025.  We settled for less than the needed repairs due to our financial situation.  Approximately .25 miles of road north of the Cave Creek town line needs completely repaved.  With the ever increasing cost of road work and our lack of funds we had to settle for a patch job at the most southern section of Sierra Vista Road.

As of July 31, 2026 the association has $136,807 in the bank

Our Volunteers

The heart of our road association beats through the dedication of our volunteers. From grading and drainage work to organizing community efforts, our neighbors donate their time and expertise to keep our shared roads safe, reliable, and well-maintained. Without their commitment and contributions, our community would not have the quality infrastructure we all depend on.

Rick Calabrese

Rick Calabrese

Rick is a retired dentist who has lived in the community with his wife Sue for 13 years. In addition to his road association work, Rick organized the Firewise program for the Sierra Vista area, helping neighbors prepare for and reduce wildfire risk.

Pat O'Brien

Pat O’Brien

Pat, along with his wife Andrea Markowitz, has lived in our community for over 15 years. Pat took over the road maintenance project in 2008 when Mike & Gloria Pollack moved from ‘Cactus Crest.’ Previously, the Pollacks, along with several other community members, undertook the landmark project of paving all the roads in our community.
